Job Description

The primary function of this position will provide peer recovery support services to individuals struggling with substance use who are enrolled in the BH CP program based at Lowell House, which is partnered with Lowell Community Health Center. The Peer Recovery Specialist will
facilitate connection to community resources, all levels of addiction treatment and recovery support, and any services required to achieve total wellness.

1.    Serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to BH CP members in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery through direct community outreach, in-home visits, in-office visits, in other community agencies, and/or phone or telehealth where appropriate.
2.    Participate in recurring individual supervision with CCS and team meetings with BH CP as needed.
3.    Collaborate with collateral agencies, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), and varying other resources in the community.
4.    Assist with transportation to needed medical/behavioral health appointments as needed.
5.    Responsible for accurate and timely documentation, including: activity notes, assessments, or treatment plans per BH CP contract regulations.

3.    Strong communication skills including active listening and ability to address topics in a non-confrontational manner.
4.    Demonstrates an understanding of and can operate within harm-reduction models of engagement with at-risk populations.
5.    Demonstrates an ability to engage diverse populations of individuals and the importance of cultural humility.
6.    Demonstrates an understanding of confidentiality and can work within the regulations of HIPAA and 42 CFR.

Physical demands

1.    Must be able to sit or stand for an extended period.
2.    Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Required education and experience

1.    High school diploma or equivalent required
2.    One year of experience working in the field of behavioral health and/or substance abuse treatment including accessing and navigating local resources and knowledge of local community-based organizations for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment.

Preferred Education and Experience

1.    Bilingualism in one or more languages of the local community: Spanish, Portuguese,  Khmer.
