Planner and Grant Coordinator

The MassHire-North Shore Workforce Board (WB) is a regional organization designated by federal and state laws as responsible for overseeing the workforce development system for the residents and companies of 19 cities and towns north of Boston.

The mission of the WB is "we put the North Shore to work":

Through collaborative leadership, the North Shore Workforce Board ensures that programming across multiple organizations and educational institutions meets evidence-based business and worker needs for highly-valued skills in our very competitive labor market.

The purpose of this position is to participate as part of the WB team in planning and logistically coordinating various new grants and other revenue opportunities that come to the WB, thereby helping North Shore job seekers (youth and adults) obtain quality, self-sustaining employment and careers and helping North Shore companies fill job vacancies with well-trained employees of all ages.

Position reports to the Director of Programs and Operations

Primary responsibilities:

Continually research grant announcements that would be appropriate to meet the mission of the WB. Prepare summaries of such opportunities for discussion with WB leadership and participate in discussions to determine appropriateness for WB applications.
For those opportunities that are deemed worthy of applications, prepare for the applications, including developing timelines, researching what is needed for completion of these applications, developing project plans to complete applications, including assigning sections to certain staff as well as taking on sections appropriate for the planner/grant coordinator to complete, and keeping colleagues on task for grant completion and submission.
Help communicate with partner organizations (including WIOA, nonprofits, educators, and industry partners) to motivate their participation in grant/partnership opportunities to deepen their effectiveness and result in successful outcomes for all involved. In addition, work with partner organizations who approach the WB with a desire to lead and/or participate in grant applications.
Once awarded, prepare, and oversee an implementation schedule that keeps programs on target for successful completion. Prepare and oversee corrections that may be necessary should changes be needed as grants are implemented. Prepare reports to funding sources as needed.
Analyze grant activities to determine their value to the organization and to job seekers and companies. Report periodically to staff, partners, and board members on the progress toward completion, including lessons learned and new ideas for quality service that might result.
Help coordinate grants across the organization (including all WIOA Youth programming as well as other initiatives) with WB leadership so that the overall mission of the WB continues to be met at a high-quality, well-integrated level.
Work with the WB team to develop sustainability of grants that are successful and build continually higher quality service to WB customers.
Assist WB leadership to communicate both internally and externally regarding new and existing programmatic efforts that impact the workforce system on the North Shore.
Entry-level requirements:

Bachelor?s degree in business or public administration, or a related field;
Five years? experience in planning, grant writing, program design, or program coordination;
Working knowledge of workforce development systems, legislation, and the challenges and opportunities they present from either the public and/or private perspectives;
Related requirements:

Excellent research, verbal, and written skills; ability to understand and interpret budgets;
Ability to communicate with and translate the needs and concerns of diverse constituencies;
Understanding of federal, state, and private philanthropic rules and regulations in the workforce developmen
