General Summary of Position:
The Office of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity & Outreach supports the University of Massachusetts Lowell in their mission to educate students for lifelong success in a diverse world and conduct research and outreach activities which sustain economic, environmental and social health. The Human Resources Benefits Representative is responsible for supporting the Human Resources department, working under the direction of the Senior Associate Director of Benefits. Possibility of some remote options are available.
1. Support the administration of benefits programs and policies for current employees:
Manage workers? compensation claims and work with department managers under the direction of the Executive Director, Compensation & Benefits.
Manage unemployment claims sent by the Department of Unemployment Assistance in a timely manner and coordinates with other HR staff for any questions.
Conduct new hire orientations scheduled weekly.
Coordinate processing of new hire documents working with payroll.
Assist with GIC administration (including new hires, changes, terminations/retirements, etc.) Assist with open enrollment and the annual flexible spending account review.
Assist with the leave of absence process.
Process tuition discount requests for eligible employees including updating the log and working with Student Financial Services.
Complete retirement requests for information from the State Employees? Retirement System including refund/rollover distribution forms.
Respond to inquiries from temporary employees regarding the Smart Plan (Mandatory OBRA) and update the Empower System for terms/rehires.
2. Provides support to payroll and compensation:
Process terminations with payroll and send benefit entitlements to employees.
Process requests for name changes and transfer employee files
Process action forms as needed (Live in Lowell Program, dental for non-unit and police which require deductions, transit, Flex Spending Accounts, etc.)
Pull employment files upon employee separation.
Provide year-end tuition imputed income tax information to employees and payroll.
Coordinate union(s) sick buyback program annually
Assist compensation function for processing of requests including promotions, transfers, additional compensation or other increases.
3. Assist employment services function:
Assist with I-9 tracker under the direction of the Director, Talent Management and Employee Relations.
Follow up with employees who have submitted incomplete or invalid documents.
4. Provide additional department support:
Provide assistance with annual, semi-annual, and other projects including benefits open enrollment, flexible spending accounts, etc.
Special projects as assigned.
Serves as a back up to serve HR/ front desk coverage, during periods of absence, daily breaks and during periods of peak activity.
Upon request, review employee personnel files (both active and terms) and retrieve old records
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
3 to 5 years of progressively responsible human resources benefits experience
Familiarity with automated payroll systems, PeopleSoft experience preferred
Bachelors Degree, preferred
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials and BuyWays desirable.
Demonstrated ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
*Will consider candidates with HS Diploma or GED/equivalent and 7-10 years of directly related experience.
