Nobis is hiring a full time Project Engineer - Environmental to join our team in our Lowell, MA office to serve as a project team member for the planning and/or design of environmental projects including assessment, characterization, investigation, design, remediation, and/or permitting of a facility, property, or site that may or is suspected to contain contaminants within the soil, groundwater, air, and/or other media.The ideal candidate will have:

-    Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university in science or engineering (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science or related field). Three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, is the recommended minimum. A Master of Science (M.S.) degree is desirable.

-    A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and proof of auto insurance is required for this position. Must also be able to travel for project site visits, meetings, data collection, and training. Travel is highly dependent upon project work requirements and may be extensive at times.

-    Engineers must possess EIT designation; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is encouraged.

-    Must demonstrate active involvement and engagement in subsequent sequential education (e.g., Master's Degree, Toastmasters), professional societies (e.g., ASCE, PGS, LSPA), preparation of technical papers related to work assignments, and/or other activities that strengthen and broaden the employee's and Nobis' technical positions.

Essential Functions:
Collaborates with team members and others to effectively execute assignments. Collects environmental soil, water, air, or other media samples both individually and as part of a field team; operates, calibrates, and maintains necessary field equipment and instruments; performs routine personnel and instrument decontamination; collects or oversees sampling during drilling; prepares and packages samples for shipping to an analytical laboratory; and ships samples for analysis.
Serves as Site Safety Officer, field engineer/scientist/geologist, or other to support environmental project work, after demonstration of site knowledge and position knowledge, including respect of peers. Initiates training as field team leader for larger environmental projects. May be required to direct field technicians and other staff during field work and coordinate work tasks. Collects necessary field data through observation or through basic field data collection techniques using field instruments such as field survey equipment, tape measures, flow meters, turbidity samplers, sieve analyses, cameras, pumps, data loggers, remediation equipment, and other instruments as needed.
Reviews, evaluates, and interprets technical reports, specifications, plans, calculations, construction schedules, and cost estimates for projects. Works with team members to complete environmental investigation and remediation projects, including sampling, drilling, and decontamination tasks.
Communicates technical information with equipment and materials vendors, accurately documents such communications, and applies the information obtained to the relevant project work.
Prepares engineering design calculations, hydro-geological assessments, and construction cost estimates. Determines the feasibility of a project or project feature based on analysis of the prepared calculations, cost estimates, and other collected data.
Identifies and/or classifieds soils in the field using appropriate standards for geologic or engineering assessment. Observes test pits, soil borings, and or rock cores, and records observations of site conditions, weather, staffing, subcontractors, and pertinent technical information.
