Job Description
General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
The MassHire Metro South/West Career Connections Job Developer/Trades Specialist is responsible for connecting young adult job seekers ages 17-24 with employment opportunities in the Metro South/West region. Heavy emphasis to be placed on employment opportunities in the construction/skilled trade industry. The position, funded under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), includes a wide variety of customer development functions, including but not limited to Employer Outreach, Case Management, Work Readiness Preparation, Employability Development and Follow-Up Services.
Supervision Received:
Receives general supervision from the Youth Program Director who assigns and oversees work providing both guidance and instruction regarding laws, regulations, rules, policies, and procedures; reviews work, assists in employee self-development, and conducts performance reviews.
Detailed Statements of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meets regularly with Career Connections team to identify young adults pursuing employment; provides on-going communication including updates on progress of placements.
- Identifies job opportunities for participants completing Occupational Skills Training programs.
- Develops and maintains relationships with trades-focused employers, including contractors and unions. Identifies job opportunities specific to the industry.
- Facilitates access to pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeships, and journeyman pathways. Assists with application process to various Union opportunities.
- Act as a mentor/role model to young adults who are entering the workforce, re-entering the workforce, or changing occupations.
- Provides extensive individual work readiness assistance including completing on-line applications, resume development, interviewing skills and job search techniques.
- Coordinates paid Internship opportunities designed to give participants? exposure to an interest-related field and serve as a way for youth to gain hands-on experience in their chosen industry.
- Facilitates employment opportunities including internships, summer employment and long term private sector placements.
- Educates young adults on opportunities to obtain industry-recognized credentials and certifications that accelerate and advance their careers. Coordinates financial assistance (tuition) with Case Managers for participants to attend courses offered at local community colleges, private training sites, vocational schools and technical schools for advanced training.
- Documents all work-related activities in database in a timely manner.
- Provides 12 months of follow up services in phase two of program to ensure employment retention.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor?s degree in Public Administration, Human Services, Business Management, or related fields at a minimum.
- Two or more years of experience in workforce development, recruitment, economic or business development, marketing, customer service or related fields.
- Knowledge of skilled trades and the skills/abilities that are required to perform the job successfully
- Experience working with young adults to determine their strengths, abilities, and transferable skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse population
- Prior experience working with ?at risk youth.?
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employer representatives and young adult job seekers, across multiple industry sectors and employment backgrounds.
- Ability to use language that has the greatest positive impact on young people.
- Proven ability to create and foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and open communication with colleagues and customers.
- Outstanding verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Strong computer skills
- Proficiency in database management
