The Town of Billerica seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Recreation
The Town of Billerica, population of nearly 43,724, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Recreation. This position assists in the planning, scheduling, and directing of the operations of the Town's Recreation Department.
Performs a variety of clerical, administrative, supervisory, and occasionally maintenance work in assisting the Recreation Director in the overall operations of the Recreation Department, including but not limited to: programming and special event planning, field permitting, grant writing, supervision of department employees, and management of Micozzi Beach. Performs all other related work as required and assigned.
Assists in developing, organizing, publicizing, coordinating, and supervising community recreation programming, sports leagues, enrichment programs, inclusion programs, and special events.
Oversees and manages inclusion and support services to ensure programs are accessible and available to all.
Develop and manage Adaptive programs for people with disabilities, including hiring, training, and supervising of staff.
Manages Micozzi Beach, including overseeing and coordinating the opening of the beach house and prepares beach area for the season, works with vendor to ensure proper treatments and testing of beach water, selecting and hiring lifeguards, ensuring proper training, and setting beach hours for the season based on staffing.
Updates and maintains accurate and detailed databases.
Prepares and submits programmatic, administrative, and statistical reports in compliance with established guidelines and required timelines.
Prepares and distributes promotional materials for department activities.
Serves as a point of contact for the general public, answering inquiries, handling minor complaints.
Assists the Director with financial management of the department, including tracking purchase orders, payments, invoices payroll, and departmental budget planning.
Monitors and inspects program sites, fields, parks playgrounds, and equipment for safe operation, reports all maintenance and repair needs to appropriate bodies.
Assists with the recruitment and hiring of staff including processing new hire files and relevant forms, training new employees.
Develops and writes grant requests for services and programs. Monitor grant monies received and submits reports.
Represents the Recreation Department on various boards and committees as assigned.
Performs duties of Program Coordinators when needed.
Acts as the Recreation Director during his/her absence.
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in related field; minimum of five (5) years of experience with program planning, and staff supervision; or an equivalent and relevant combination of education, training and experience. CPR Certification required, Park and Recreation Professional Certification recommended. Experience in Therapeutic Recreation or Special Needs programming is preferred.
The Assistant Director?s position salary is from $72,514 - $85,678 for a 37.5-hour work week, depending on experience, qualifications, certifications and education.
