Job Description
Nashoba Valley Technical High School is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Custodian. Nashoba Valley Technical High School is a Level 1 regional technical high school proudly serving students from our district towns of Ayer, Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend, and Westford, Massachusetts.

This is a full-time, twelve month, Monday through Friday position Hours are as follows:
Probationary period first 60 days on the 1st shift - 7:00am to 3:30pm with a 30 minute unpaid/duty free lunch
After probationary period, hours will shift to 2nd shift - 2:30pm to 11:00pm with a 30 minute unpaid/duty free lunch

Per union collective bargaining agreement the starting probation rate is $20.86 per hour. After an employee has completed sixty (60) working days, such employee will then be paid as set forth in Step 1 ($21.85 per hour for the 2022-2023

.Custodian Job Functions

Perform all cleaning tasks inside and outside school buildings, including sweeping, using vacuum cleaner, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, sealing and waxing floors, and dusting
Moving and arranging furniture, equipment, draperies, and storage equipment
Removing wastepaper and other materials and emptying waste receptacles inside and outside of the building
Replacing light bulbs
Perform routine maintenance on lavatory equipment, including unstopping plugged fixtures
Removing ice and snow from school grounds and roof decks, salting and sanding
Locking and unlocking facility and securing facility when leaving the building vacant, including setting alarms
Unloading and storing supplies and equipment
Picking up and delivering supplies
Regular and prompt attendance
Occasional minor electrical work, carpentry, plumbing and painting
Performing security functions as needed
Driving forklift on intermittent basis
Driving school vehicles as needed
Such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Director of Facilities or Night Shift Supervisor

Job Requirements: Required:
valid Massachusetts driver's license
ability to obtain OSHA 10 hour General Industry
ability to understand instructions and communicate with students, staff, and other building users
heavy physical activity including regular lifting of 50 pounds, shoveling, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and reaching over head
long hours of standing and walking

  • able to work at varying heights off of ladders, lifts, and staging
    must be available for Emergency calls 24/7
    must be available for snow removal when needed

    Preferred:
    o    diploma from an accredited secondary school, or GED
    o    Massachusetts Hydraulic Engineer License
    Knowledg . Skills, and Abilities:
    o    Working knowledge of building cleaning practices
    o    Ability to read labels and instructions
    o    Ability to follow oral and written instructions with little ongoing supervision
    Knowledge of, or ability to learn and apply, safety procedures and requirements for use, storage, and disposal of cleaning supplies and hazardous materials
    o    Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationshipswith supervisors, staff, students and members of the public who use the school
    o    Skill in basic building maintenance tasks, including simple plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and painting
    o    Skill in operating cleaning tools and other custodial equipment
    o    Ability to use a forklift, snowplow, snowblower, and sander
    o    Ability to use, and dispose of, cleaning products and other potentially hazardous materials safely
    o    Ability to do grounds work, mowing and general maintenance
    ¿    No experience required
    ¿    High School/Trade School degree
