The Town of Billerica seeks applicants for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant O & M Technician

Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Wastewater Plant Supervisor , implements the directives of the Supervisor for the daily operation of all staff, equipment and processes in the plant, schedules all preventive and corrective maintenance, assures compliance with standard operating procedures for all plant operations, provides technical assistance to employees on equipment throughout the plant according to manufacturer?s specifications; directs cross-training and education programs for staff ; assists in development of Standard Operating Practices; delivers safety training/tailgate talks and monitors workplace practices.

Requirements
o    High School diploma or equivalency certificate
o    Grade 6 or higher Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Certification
o    Valid Massachusetts Driver?s License
o    Ten years? experience operating a wastewater treatment plant
o    Advanced knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and regulations
o    Knowledge of employee supervision including work planning, assignment, review, training, and discipline.
o    Advanced knowledge of chemical feed calibration procedures, including troubleshooting and repairing
o    Advanced knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, occupational hazards, & safety procedures common to the trade
o    Advanced knowledge of chemicals utilized at a wastewater treatment plant including the safe-handling, laboratory testing for verifying chemical delivered and emergency response necessary for each chemical.

Duties
o    Directs daily plant operations and maintenance activities for optimized operation to ensure compliance with state, federal and local regulations. This includes, but is not limited to:
o    Ensuring safety procedures such as confined space entries, fall protection, large equipment operation, etc. are followed by staff.
o    Training subordinate personnel in proper job performance
o    Operates equipment manually and through SCADA.
o    Performs and document inspections, maintenance and work performed.
o    Provides performance feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis to staff.
o    Addresses performance and/or disciplinary problems in accordance with policies and procedures.

Salary:
$39.96 per hour to start

Hours - Monday thru Friday  7:00 am to 3:30 pm
