Position Summary:
The Conservation Agent oversees conservation and assists with various aspects of general land use.
Supervision:
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Planning and Community Development, following rules, regulations, and policies to complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide oversight of consultants, contractors, volunteers, and board members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provides support, coordination and professional management for the Office of Planning and Community Development with a particular focus and expertise in conservation-related matters and regulatory compliance.
- Supports the Planning and Community Development Director by participating in site plan reviews and inspections, drafting agendas, providing professional guidance and instruction to applicants, and drafting or reviewing official decisions.
- Organizes, administers and oversees Conservation Commission business, provides focus and expertise to the Commission relative to protect the community's natural resources and caring for the Town¿s natural areas, wetlands, and environmental resource areas.
- Maintains and updates General and Special Conditions as directed by the Conservation Commission. Plans, engages consultants, and/or oversees project compliance in tandem with other Town staff, Boards and the Planning Director.
- Responds to complaints, conducts site visits and issues Violation Notices, Enforcement Orders, or Tickets as required by stature; may be called upon to consult with Legal Counsel or assists Town staff in the preparation of documents or assessment for use in legal matters.
- Maintains confidential legal files, and consults with counsel on current legal decisions
- Educates and trains Board and Commission officials relative to regulation changes and/or legislative updates from the State's Department of Environmental Protection.
- Maintains and updates town conservation-related webpages and creates informational flyers as needed.
- Assists in the administration and management of conservation land that is under the jurisdiction of the Conservation Commission; participates in long-range planning efforts relative to land acquisition; conducts on-site inspections of parcels under consideration for development or purchase.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Wetland Science, Biology/Ecology or a related field plus at least two years¿ experience working in the field relative to wetlands management and delineation. Any equivalent combination of education and experience shall be considered.
- Ability to exercise considerable independence, initiative, and sound judgement; strength working with minimal supervision and competence in prioritizing competing deadlines and priorities.
- Valid MA Class D Driver¿s License free of infractions and ability to utilize personal vehicle for site visits and other business as necessary.
