POLICE DEPARTMENT

FULL-TIME DISPATCHER POSITION AVAILABLE (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

MULTIPLE SHIFTS- MIDNIGHT-8:00am ( 4 ON/2 OFF SCHEDULE)

Position Description:

The Town of West Springfield seeks a qualified individual to the full-time position of Dispatcher with the Police Department. Under the general supervision of the superior officer(s) on duty, the Dispatcher is responsible for answering 911 fire, medical and police calls, non-emergency phones, dispatching officers, and EMS/Fire to locations given, and entering call information into the appropriate computer system. Dispatcher is also responsible for handling walk-ins from the general public.

The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

These positions are included in the United Municipal Employees of West Springfield bargaining unit. The position is classified as S-6. ($21.02 per hour)

Qualifications:

Requirements of the position include: Associate?s degree and one to three (1-3) years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered at the discretion of the Town.

Ability to become certified in E-911, IMC, LEAPS/NCIC and CORI certified; ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed and effective manner under stressful situations; ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing and to calm individuals down in order to obtain information; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with Town employees, Town officials and the public.
