Job Description
The following position is available in the West Springfield Public School system beginning with the 2023/2024 school year:

Elementary ESL/SLIFE Teacher

SLIFE - Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education. Teachers in the SLIFE Program will build foundational skills necessary for ELs to acquire the English language, promote social/emotional adjustment, and provide comprehensive instruction which capitalizes on SLIFE students¿ individual foundational knowledge and interests, creating opportunities to make significant progress to achieve educational goals including college and/or career readiness.

Duties:
-Provide systematic, explicit, and sustained language instruction to ELs
-Utilize WIDA Can-Do¿s to address academic & linguistic skills and vocabulary needs to accelerate language in each of the domains
-Collaborate with SCI (Sheltered Content Instructors) to focus on academic & linguistic support needs in the classroom
-Administer progress-monitoring assessments
-Review data to determine learning goals for SSPs
-Complete WIDA report cards
-Maintain EL caseload (data, progress, SSPs) in Ellevation
-Support the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics
-Provide updates to families on curriculum and strategies of support for learners at school and home.

Qualifications:
-Minimum Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Master¿s preferred -Massachusetts DESE certification required in ESL PreK-6 -Additional certification in a content area preferred
-Minimum one to three years of experience teaching and assessing elementary ELs required
-Creative, dedicated, self-driven, and compassionate educator with a solid understanding of English Learners and an extensive toolbox of instructional strategies.
-Extensive experience with diverse populations and ready to support the variability of our community.
-Experience collaborating with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and create a language-rich environment to meet the learning needs of ELs.
-Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential

Salary: Per Unit A contract.
