Job Title: CDL-B Driving Instructor

Department: Operations

Job Location: Springfield, MA

Are you an experienced CDL Driving Instructor who wants to use your skills and experience to help our new drivers start their new careers? Springfield Area Transit Company is seeking qualified CDL trainers to assist us on a per-diem basis to train our new public transit Bus Operators. Due to the high volume of interest in this opportunity, we are seeking additional trainers to conduct CDL Training on a periodic basis (e.g., every few weeks). Currently classes are limited to 3 students per class.

We provide complete CDL training (with passenger endorsement and airbrake) and coordinate all related activities from initial hire to completion of the road test. Passenger Endorsement-Add on and Airbrake Restriction removal training is also part of our training program.

Summary of Duties: Lead classroom, yard, and road CDL Class B, Passenger Endorsement and Airbrake training; Perform evaluations through checklists and observation, as well as documenting progress; Monitor student progress, identify any gaps and provide additional assistance as necessary; Maintain proper documentation, including daily attendance, tracking, evaluations, etc.; Emphasize safety concepts, principles and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience: MUST have a valid CDL Class A or B license with Passenger Endorsement and no Airbrake restriction; experience driving a commercial passenger vehicle (e.g. transit bus, school bus, motor coach, etc.); Driver Training Instructor License is not required but is desirable; must possess a clean driving record and have no DUI in the past 10 years; must be physically able to operate motor vehicle; must be patient and a good leader and teacher to students; have strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate empathy in the classroom and yard with students; demonstrated experience with conducting classroom ELDT training, basic maneuvers, drilling pre-trip, ABT?s, Road Test maneuvers, roadwork, and mock testing for Road Test and Road Test taking.

Availability: Must be available and willing to teach classes on per diem basis up to two classes per every two months (training time averages 3 weeks, generally Monday ? Friday or Tuesday ? Saturday, 8 hours per day).
