The May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in West Springfield, MA is currently accepting resumes for a Registered Nurse to become part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides supportive services to children and adolescents ages 3-22 with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. For more than 60 years, May Institute has been guided by its mission of providing compassionate care and helping families navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes of their children's journeys through the complex world of autism and related disabilities.
Our schools focus on building communication, social, behavioral, vocational, and academic skills. We base our programs on applied behavior analysis, or ABA, which has been shown through hundreds of scientific studies to be the most effective method to teach children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disabilities. We work together with families to prepare for the transition to adulthood, and utilizing the considerable resources available to us, our caring professionals help each child to reach their highest potential.

Great daytime schedule! Monday - Thursday 8:15 AM -2:45 PM, Friday 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM (33 hours per week)
Responsibilities Include:
Provide emergency care for students in the event of injury or sudden illness
Administer medication to students with parent/guardian and physician consent
Conduct staff training on CPR and first aid, medication side effects, inhalers and other health related topics
Track and request annual physical and dental exams from families
Complete immunization surveys through MDPH as needed
Provide intake assessment and annual assessments for each student served
Attend student intake and other student meetings as needed
Maintain secure and up-to- date student health records on all students
Serve as a liaison between primary care physicians (PCP), psychiatrists and other health care specialists involved in the treatment of the individual served
Promote health education though creating and/or sharing pertinent health updates and healthy lifestyle information with staff and families
Management of medication administration and epinephrine training program
Occasional support and nursing consultation with our Chicopee campus
Qualifications:
Current RN license in the state of MA
Bachelor's degree in nursing strongly preferred
Previous experience as a school nurse preferred; Candidates with experience in pediatrics and/or developmental disabilities interested in transitioning to school nursing welcome to apply
Previous experience providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
Valid driver's license
1-year minimum related work experience
Ability to work in a team environment of collaboration while working independently in the nurse's office
Previous medication administration teaching experience preferred
Previous experience providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
Previous pediatric and/or young adult experience preferred
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Adept with email, word processing programs and EHR's
Maintain Safety Care and CPR/First Aid certification (provided)
