Housing Counselor - HUD Certified


Position Summary:

The Housing Counselor ? HUD Certified will provide case management services to individuals who have been identified as having risk factors related to housing. This person is responsible for: pre and post-group education workshops regarding the home buying process, and individual counseling/case management, for those in the home buying process.

The Housing Counselor will coordinate activities and strategies to stabilize at-risk households and provide direct housing assistance, case management, referrals, housing search, landlord-tenant mediation, and group workshops.

They will be responsible for analyzing housing trends, and working with other entities and organizations as it relates to housing. The Housing Counselor will need to complete reports to HUD and other entities as assigned by the Director of Community Services.

Responsibilities:

CLASSES / WORKSHOPS
· Coordinate First Time Housing counseling program
· Organize and schedule workshops 6 times per year
· Prepare curriculum for workshop series, adapting to group?s special situation and resources
· Secure meeting space
· Prepare agendas, handouts, visual aids, and working materials
· Secure and orient guest speakers and trainers
· Schedule, notify participants of workshops, and monitor registrations
· Present education programs and Agency presentations
· Evaluate workshops and participants? progress
· Participate in the development and continual refinement of educational materials
· Set up and clean up after workshops
· Coordinate graduation ceremonies
· Conduct participant intake and assessments to determine eligibility, level of need, and program readiness
· Schedule and coordinate follow-up one-on-one case management counseling sessions
· Make internal and external referrals as necessary
· Assist the Outreach Coordinator to disseminate outreach, marketing, and program materials to the general public
· Record-keeping, data entry, preparation of statistics and text for funding, marketing, and client referral

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
· Conducts comprehensive analysis of participants? financial situation
· Assist participants to identify financial goals and objectives
- Conducted one-on-one case management counseling sessions
· Work with participants to develop a household budget, spending/payment plan and develop an individualized action plan appropriate for the participant?s household
· Educate participants on accessing available resources to meet priority expenses and support financial goals
· Review debt obligations, including an analysis of the participant housing report
· Provides recommended course of action relevant to the participant?s individual situation and in support of participants housing goals
· Establish and maintain updated and confidential participant files, prepares and document all counseling sessions
· Monitor participant?s progress towards meeting identified goals
· Tracking and data entry using automated systems
· Prepare and generate internal and external program reports
· Develop and sustain community contacts for the purposes of funding, marketing, and participant referral
· Direct communication and negotiation with mediators and other related agencies
· Assist participants to develop and present written communications to creditors.

EVICTION COUNSELING
· Organize and schedule tenant education workshops and weekly Eviction Clinics. Includes; securing meeting space, preparing agendas, handouts, visual aids, and working materials, recruiting and scheduling guest speakers and participants

· Conduct consumer intake and assessments to determine eligibility, level of need, and service type
