DEFINITION
EARLY LEARNING SPECIALISTS

Works as part of the early childhood/Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) Parent Child Home Program (PCHP) team, including: regular family/interactive literacy home visits with parents and their young children; modeling play and literacy activities; record-keeping.

Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Home Visitors will perform some, or all, of the following essential functions:

Schedule and facilitate twice weekly home visits with PCHP families
Bring a new book or toy for the family to keep each week
Model appropriate ways for the parent to interact with the child, using the book or toy
Review toy or book and other materials at the second visit of the week
Encourage verbal interaction between parent and child
Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse population of children and families
Serve as resource for families, providing parenting support and referrals to other agencies as appropriate
Work with coordinator to develop guide sheets for program materials
Participate actively in weekly staff meeting to review visits, discuss families, and create guide sheets
Maintain program records including report on each home visit, record of home visit schedule, and other required program records
Participate in workshops and trainings, as needed
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications -
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and /or two years of college in early childhood or related field
One year experience working with young children and their families
Experience working with "high needs" families

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


Physical effort required to perform functions in typical home play environment;
Ability to lift child weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to transport oneself to make home visits in different neighborhoods in Northampton, Florence, Leeds, and Hadley

IF HIRED:  

Must have acceptable MA CORI and SAFIS Fingerprint Background Checks.

Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or qualify for medical or religious exemption prior to the start of employment.

Beginning Hourly Wage Range:  $16.23 - $21.07 (FY23 rates)

Hours vary between 8 - 16 hours/week.
