Early Childhood Lead Teacher
Position Summary:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for the overall direction and management of the classroom including but not limited to planning curriculum, writing daily and weekly schedules, maintaining all necessary paperwork, and the daily oversight of staff working in the assigned classroom. The Lead Teacher must carry out the goals and objectives of Springfield Partners for Community Action?s Early Learning Center?s Educational Philosophy and Goals. Lead Teachers are also responsible for the implementation of procedures and regulations of the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), Department of Children and Families (DCF), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and Springfield Partners for Community Action.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Know and maintain teacher/child ratios in compliance with DEEC.
· Possesses a working knowledge of and adherence to NAEYC criteria.
· Provide leadership to ensure programs and services are successfully delivered through teaching staff while building a team environment.
· Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies and quality learning experiences.
· Keeps children safe and healthy through proper supervision, thoughtful interactions, and practicing good health habits including infant safe sleep practices.
· Ensures that all children are supervised by sight and sound at all times.
· Prepares weekly written curriculum, and implements or assigns designee to implement daily lesson plans/activities.
· Updates and maintains classroom portfolio in accordance with NAEYC standards.
· Completes all child assessments/checkpoints through TS Gold at assigned due dates.
· Conducts parent conferences at regular intervals and as needed throughout the year.
· Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children.
· Responsible for all paperwork assigned including but not limited to: daily attendance, meal counts for USDA attendance, and daily notes.
· Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics (including the NAEYC code of Ethical Conduct), and state and federal laws.
· Documents any incidents or accidents on the appropriate forms and provide a copy to appropriate personnel.
· Adheres to all DEEC and Springfield Partners policies and regulations.
· Report to Director any special needs or problems of individual children and any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
· Conducts daily oversight duties of staff in the classroom. Informs Director of issues and concerns on an as-needed basis and takes part in the evaluation process with Director as needed.
· Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and the facility.
· Continues professional growth through attendance at staff meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
· Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director or designee.

DUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· Must have Lead Teacher certification from DEEC
· Matriculated in a college program in ECE or related field.
· Associate?s Degree required by January 2016, Bachelor?s degree in Early Education or related field preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of classroom experience in an early childhood setting.
· Current First Aid/CPR certificate
· Must have a documented current physical and required MMR.
