Job Description:
The candidate will assist instructor(s) in the shop and related theory classrooms. Knowledge of the competencies and skills required of students in specific vocational-technical areas is essential. The candidate will have an understanding of curriculum development and students' learning styles and possess the ability to work with all students in assisting the technical instructor in delivering quality programming to prepare the students to meet the demands of the modern workplace. The candidate will translate and assist with communication with ELL students, primarily Spanish-speaking students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the daily planning of shop projects and related instruction.
Monitors the activities of small groups of students.
Shares industry experience with students and staff.
Monitors students in completing shop tasks while helping them to develop an attitude of personal and professional excellence.
Assists the vocational-technical instructor(s) in accommodating the special needs of individual students.
Assists in the maintenance of individual student records.
Helps maintain discipline under the supervision of the teacher.
Assists the vocational-technical instructor(s) in maintaining a safe, clean, professional work environment.
Assists the vocational-technical instructor(s) with analyzing data to develop appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of all students.
Assists the vocational-technical instructor(s) in breaking down CTE competencies, tasks, and projects for diverse learners.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION Education/Formal Training Required:
Experience in the workplace in specific vocational technical training areas (Licensed tradesperson preferred).
Candidate should be motivated to begin the process towards vocational certification; however, certification is not a requirement for the position.
Characteristics that clearly incorporate a team concept and indicate the ability to relate positively to high school students and colleagues.
Possess personal and professional history, which is exemplary and supported with references.
Knowledge of shop safety, hand tools, power tools, and equipment for specified shop areas is required.
The candidate must be able to inspire excellence and prepare the students for social responsibility, employment, and postsecondary education to meet our mission with enthusiasm and a positive attitude effectively.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Equipment Used: General office equipment, including computers, copiers, phone systems, and two-way radios. Required Physical Activity: Handling and Moving Objects Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating objects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The chart below indicates the annual percentage of time spent on the following essential physical requirements. 1. Seldom = Less than 25% 2. Occasional = 25-50% 3. Often = 51-75% 4. Very Frequent = 76% and above 4) a. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods. (4) b. Ability to see for purposes of reading printed matter, computer screens, and observing students. (4) c. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. (4) d. Ability to communicate orally so others can understand a normal conversation. (3) e. Ability to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push, and pull. (4) f. Ability to lift 25 pounds. (2) g. Ability to lift 30 pounds. (3) h. Ability to carry 50 pounds. (3) i. Ability to reach in all directions.
