Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Valley Blue Sox General Manager reports directly to the team President and is the face of the organization, serving as the day-to-day liaison to the league office, city personnel, sponsors, local media outlets, and our players/staff. The GM will operate and oversee the following areas: Sales & Marketing (including sponsorship, advertising, and ticket sales), Game-Day and Promotional activities, League Responsibilities, Internship coordination, and General Business Management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SALES AND MARKETING/SPONSORSHIPS
Renew and further existing sponsor contracts and relationships. Prospect and negotiate new team sponsors. Work with local media outlets to promote the team through various forms of advertising and publicity. Develop a promotional schedule and special event opportunities. Conceptualize season tickets and group tickets to local businesses, organizations, and community members. Secure premium promotions to enhance the fan experience. Ensure the delivery of all sponsor-contracted materials. Oversee the production and printing of all promotional materials and give-away items. Manage and grow all social media channels in engaging ways.
LEAGUE RESPONSIBILITIES
Represent the team at all league meetings and applicable baseball conferences. Manage team travel for all away games and activities. Liaison with other league general managers and the league?s front office including, but not limited to, umpires, schedule decisions regarding inclement weather, rescheduling games, etc. Complete all necessary paperwork issued by the league in order to operate for the season.
INTERNSHIP COORDINATION
Effectively hire, train, manage, motivate, and lead a team of 15-20 interns. Attend intern fairs/events to acquire interns for spring/summer (UMass, Southern Connecticut). Manage interns in the following areas:Sales & Marketing
Social Media
Analytics/Scorekeeper
Broadcasting
Journalism
PA and Stadium Audio
Schedule interns for office days and game days based on responsibilities and needs. Oversee game-day activities of interns in the press box.
GENERAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Work with printer to schedule printing of tickets and promotional material. Collect Player league fees (per league mandate). Assist in the placement of players with host families for the summer season. Utilize our existing CRM System (SalesForce) for revenue-generating and contract creation. Organize youth clinics and other community events throughout the season. Assist in the planning of the Western Massachusetts Hall of Fame Ceremony. Oversee the operations of concessions and complete the necessary trainings to sell food and alcohol at the stadium.
REQUIREMENTS
Available to work a full schedule including games, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed. Hours can be non-typical of a common "work day", including both nights and weekends. Energetic, "will-do" attitude, problem-solving a must. Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Capable of representing and setting the example for the rest of the organization to follow. Working knowledge of basic desktop publishing and Microsoft office, etc. Dependable, reliable transportation. Creativity in developing game-day promotion ideas. Strong working knowledge of social media and digital marketing. BS in Business Administration, Sports Management, or other related field Working knowledge of SalesForce a plus.
