Description
MHA is hiring immediately for a Life Coach. The Life Coach supports individuals obtain the tools needed to live independently in the community. S/he works within the Agency's team model, establishing open communication, support, and accountability among co-workers in accordance with MHA's Core Values (Respect, Integrity, and Compassion), policies, practices, program funding and applicable regulatory agency guidelines.
Based in Hampden County, this is an engaging, rewarding job for an individual who is truly dedicated to making a difference in the community and the lives of young adults.
The Life Coach Position's Essential Functions
Help young adults learn independent living skills by teaching, role modeling.
Communicates, represents and promotes the perspective of individuals, serving as an advocate in collaboration with the person.
Participate actively in their community.
Works with individuals to prepare for a variety of formal and informal meetings including treatment planning, employment services and social engagements. Support and advocated for individuals during admission and transition from the program.
Share information about community resources, including peer-run groups, and community events; Facilitates community engagement activities for individuals.
Provision of IAP interventions.
Coordination with vocational/educational activities.
Facilitating groups to improve young adult's life skills.
Models self-care and self-advocacy techniques that may include health and wellness.
Interacts with young adults in order to assess needs, provide information, discuss problems, identify patterns and stressors and encourage growth and development.
Develop individual's confidence in order to articulate their life goals.
Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or as necessary.
Promotes understanding of each individual's cultural identity to be able to enhance support and respect of the individual's choices.
Complete documentation requirements including progress notes, data entry.
Transport as needed.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
The Life Coach Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Valid driver's license, sufficient automobile insurance, acceptable driving record, and a safe reliable vehicle during working hours.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, prioritize tasks, take initiative, follow through, and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
Good oral, written, computer, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of the program participants.
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, caring, and compassion.
Cheerful, outward-going personality.
Must be able to pass and maintain certifications in CPR, and first aid.
Demonstrates ability to engage and build respectful and collaborative relationships.
Performs well under stress and in the event of a crisis.
Familiarity with local community resources.
Must be at least eighteen years old.
The Life Coach Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree Required.
Previous experience helping educate young adults preferred.
Prior experience in advocacy or peer support role preferred.
Previous Life Couch experience preferred.
Bilingual preferred
The shift is 12pm-8pm
